We Are Reading!

Can you believe that only nine days into kindergarten your child can already read the following words: I, my, & can! Way to go! I would also like your child to practice the following sentences:

* Rabbit had rain in her garden.

* "You will not get my eggs!" yelled Mama Turtle.

These sentences were introduced in conjunction with our letters. We practice pointing to each word as we read! Happy reading! :)

We also learned how to spell the color word purple with the following song:

PURPLE
(tune: She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain)
P-U-R-P-L-E, PURPLE, PURPLE
P-U-R-P-L-E, PURPLE’S WHAT THAT SPELLS
PURPLE GRAPES ON THE VINE
PURPLE KOOL-AID'S FINE
P-U-R-P-L-E, PURPLE’S WHAT THAT SPELLS

P-U-R-P-L-E, PURPLE, PURPLE
P-U-R-P-L-E, PURPLE’S WHAT THAT SPELLS
PURPLE GRAPES ON THE VINE
PURPLE KOOL-AID'S FINE
P-U-R-P-L-E, PURPLE’S WHAT THAT SPELLS

Thank you for working with your child each night! :)

What a great first week!

Miss Randolph's Family is off to a fabulous start! Your child has been working hard, learning how to be the best kindergarten student they can be! You have probably heard quite a few new songs...we love to sing at the Early Learning Village! The following songs have been introduced:

* We have a school-wide behavior system that helps us remember to make good choices:
5 STEPS
(tune: Have You Ever Seen a Lassie)
What are the 5 STEPS, 5 STEPS, 5 STEPS?
What are the 5 STEPS, 5 STEPS to success?
Safe hands and safe feet
Try your best
Express yourself
Play nice with others
Stop and think!

* We have also begun to learn how to spell our color words. Each day we have focused on a new color word. Thank you for reviewing the following songs with your little one:
RED
(Tune; ARE YOU SLEEPING?)

R-E-D, red.
R-E-D, red.
I can spell red
I can spell red.
Fire trucks are red,
Stop signs are red, too.
R-E-D,
R-E-D.

ORANGE
(Tune: THE WHEELS ON THE BUS)

O-R-A-N-G-E,
O-R-A-N-G-E,
O-R-A-N-G-E
ORANGE IS WHAT THAT SPELLS

JACK-O-LANTERNS ARE ALWAYS ORANGE
CARROTS ARE ALWAYS ORANGE
ORANGES ARE ALWAYS ORANGE
O-R-A-N-G-------E!

YELLOW
(IF YOU’RE HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT)

Y-E-L-L-O-W SPELLS YELLOW.
Y-E-L-L-O-W SPELLS YELLOW.
LIKE THE EARLY MORNING SUN
WHEN THE DAY HAS JUST BEGUN.
Y-E-L-L-O-W SPELLS YELLOW.

LEMONADE AND SCRAMBLED EGGS ARE YELLOW.
I LIKE THE SMILEY FACE THAT’S YELLOW.
HE IS SUCH A HAPPY FELLOW.

Thank you for signing and returning the file folder of information you received at Meet the Teacher Night. We truly appreciate the time and effort you have taken to complete all the paperwork as soon as possible. Thank you for initialing your child's behavior calendar each day, and returning their homework folder to school! This will serve as our best line of communication between home and school.:)
